Container Security, Container Seals Procedure

Upon loading the container by either the shipper's facility, or by our contracted Container Freight Station a high security seal is being affixed by either the warehouse manager or loading supervisor. The seals are not accessible to the general staff and are kept in sequential numbers. After sealing the container the seal number is being recorded on the Shipping Order or Dock Receipt. The relevant documents is then transmitted to our overseas OPS department. Our OPS department records the seal number on our house bill of lading. In the same fashion the stevedore at the carrier's terminal records the physical seal number received on the container at the gate. That seal number is being recorded on the master bill of lading. Any discrepancy between the seal number recorded by our OPS department and the carrier's OPS department will be reported to the local authorities. A physical inspection of the container may be ordered. Upon discharging the container from the vessel at the port of entry into the U.S. the stevedores record the seal number affixed to the container. Any discrepancy to the number recorded by the carrier's OPS department at origin is being reported to CBP as well as to our OPS department. A physical inspection of the container may be ordered. Upon receipt of the container at the customer facility, or at our contracted container freight station the seal is being removed and the number recorded. Any discrepancy in the seal number is being reported to our OPS department at destination. A turnout report is being created and any disparity, damage, or shortage is being recorded. The turnout report is then transmitted to the origin OPS for comparison and any necessary action.
